A Truth About Amazon U.S. Marketplace

My name is Neo, an independent entrepreneur. After graduating from college, I started developing and selling the Huiye Rotating Chandelier Lift System and founded the brand LOLPrank on my own.
I met an American friend who told me that Americans nowadays don’t like Chinese products, as the quality of Chinese products is not guaranteed. He added that political factors also play a role. The current U.S. President Donald Trump is hostile to China—evident from the tariff trade war—and he is very unwilling to let Chinese products enter the U.S. market. His reasoning is to protect the interests of local American enterprises and workers.
But what’s the truth? Has he really protected the interests of American local businesses and workers? I don’t think so. I previously worked for an Amazon seller that sold men’s tactical pants. Through market analysis, I found that on Amazon’s U.S. site, most of the top-ranked listings in nearly all categories are owned by Chinese companies. Even those labeled as "American enterprises" are actually mostly run by Chinese people.
I asked my supervisor about this, and he said that local American companies can’t compete with Chinese sellers. This is because Chinese sellers have absolute advantages over local U.S. sellers in terms of product cost diversity and overall cost efficiency. Even with the distance across the entire Pacific Ocean, the shipping cost (including tariffs) averaged per product is less than $0.5. This is a testament to China’s strong supply chain capabilities.
So here’s the fact: Most Americans who shop on Amazon end up buying Chinese products. They purchase Chinese products on their phones while, in real life, joining Trump in chanting to "drive Chinese products out of the U.S."—how ironic is that?
I strongly advise American consumers to avoid letting political factors overly influence their purchasing decisions. Consumers should prioritize cost-effective products that suit their needs, rather than wearing tinted glasses based on where a product is made. Because if they do otherwise, they will not only miss out on good products but also end up being used by politicians.
